MAGNETIC POETRY

Grade: 7-8
Age: 11-14

Submitted by Jane Sanders, a student at Wheelock College.

Objectives:

Reinforcing creative writing skills.

What You Need:

  • paper with words written on it (typed lines work best)
  • roll of magnetic strip
  • scissors

What You Do:

  1. Have the child use a computer and type a few lines of their favorite words.
  2. Then print.

  3. Using the size of your magnetic strip as a guide, cut lines to fit on strip.

  4. The magnetic strips should have an adhesive side, use that side to lay down your typed line.

  5. When completed, cut each word separate from the strip.

  6. You will end up with many magnetic words.

  7. Have the child combine the words to make a sentence or to write a poem.

  8. Stick magnets on fridge or metal surface.
