Teaching Tip
I believe children should be exposed to all kinds of art and be given the opportunity to create thier own works of art as well.
I often visit my childrens' classrooms to do art projects with them.
I like to pick an artist I think they will find interesting.
I first give them a brief history, give them some interesting or funny facts about the artist and then show them some of the artist's work.
There almost always seems to be one common denominator among the artists. All had their own way of viewing the world and expressing themselves even at the discouragment of their teachers.
Many of the greatest artist were told they would never be successful, yet these artist stayed true to themselves and did not give into peer pressure. It is a lesson we can all learn from.
Some of the favorites are Matisse, Van Gogh and Dr. Suess.
We have all have fun creating our OWN art and learning together!
