Teaching Tip
I show children pictures created by Van Gogh.
I then talk about how he made his own unique type of art and discuss things we like about it.
Van Gogh's art is great for preschoolers since they are just becoming aware of color and shapes. It is important for them to use these words and recognize them in their surroundings.
Then we get a large peice of butcher paper and finger paints and big brushes with different textures (some children do not enjoy messy fingers). Then we paint our masterpiece!
When the paintings are dry, we discuss what we like about them.
I point out the colors and textures and shapes.
We then display the art in our gallery (hall way) for all to see.
Sunflowers and Starry Night are awesome for this type of activity.
