Teaching Tip
Choose an image of visual art, age-appropriate for student(s).
For example:
- For early elementary: choose something colorful and narrative like Horace Pippin's "Christmas Morning"
- For high school: choose something abstract and more complex, like Georgia O'Keeffe's "Waterfall III."
The process is the same, ask:
- "What is going on in this picture?"
- "What do you see that makes you say that?"
Repeat what is said, draw comparisions and contrasts with what is said.
The students will self-learn through this discussion and discovery of what they alreay know and continue to look for in visual images.
