ART HISTORY TEACHING TIP

Teaching Tip

I like to focus on a particular artist-, such as Matisse.

I show his work chronologically and talk about some positive aspect of his personal life.

In Matisse's case: how he developed paper-cuts as a way to continue working after his illness made it hard for him to paint.

It's inspiring to see that he continued to work, despite the struggle with his illness.

Afterwards, we make our own paper-cuts using Matisse's forms and symbols for inspiration.
