Teaching Tip
Teaching art should always remain very visual.
I find a great project for the students is describing a piece of art.
Have the students roughly re-create the work into a box drawn onto an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper.
All around the box where the work is re-drawn, the students will write their descriptions:
- what colours were used by the artist?
- what style was used?
- how did the artist create the techniques?
- who is in the piece of art? why?
- what is in the piece of art? why?
Asking these questions allows to students to become more comfortable describing artwork and allows them the time to really look and re-create and think about the piece of art that they have chosen.
