Teaching Tip
I usually read an age-appropriate book to my students, which gives some interesting information about the artist.
If I have access to posters or other visuals, I will show them, eliciting a discussion among the students in VTS (Visual Thinking Strategies) fashion.
If posters are not available, I create a slide-show of examples on my computer and show it on the TV screen.
The art lesson that follows will tie in to the discussion, using the time period and the artist's style as a springboard for the project.
