Teaching Tip
I let the students know that I am not an artist but a teacher.
I often show examples of my art work that is not my personal best. (The students do not know this).
I explain that you can not mess up in art and that the great masters took much time... possibly years to create one piece.
I relate their work to writing with the pre-write steps through the published steps.
I provide as much time as needed to complete their personal pieces.
I show the students the different steps (like starting in sketch books) that it takes to create a masterpiece.
We discuss the famous masterpieces and create our own in many different artists' styles.
We observe and discuss sometimes before we create.
We just have a a whole lot of fun!
