Teaching Tip
Make it fun for the children to learn!
When I get my students excited to engage in learning about art history I have them do independant research outside of the class.
Then I will take what they have learned outside of the classroom and then teach others about what they have learned.
I give my students the opportunity to get others involved with this process. For example: mothers, fathers brothers sisters, grandparents, etc.
I will assign different projects for them to participate in like design and build your own kite, design a flag to hang outside of the school, design a shirt, or build your own derby car. These are just a few of the projects I have done with my students.
I find that when a child has something that is an object they can actually interact with it will automatically catch their interest.
I then have the students along with their helper research different artists and time periods. Once they have knowledge about the topic they will incorporate this into their overall project.
