▼ DRESS FOR A MESS
From bone, clay, and marble to wood, metal, and ivory, humans have always created figures and monuments. However, sculpture is an interesting art form because prior to the 20th century, it was created only as a way to represent something, be it a person or a spirit (ie: Human statues or Masks). In modern times however, the focus has shifted and now sculptural works feature a wide variety of non-representational forms.
Ready to get your hands dirty? Try making Clay Heads, Coil Pots, Gargoyles or Bean Mosaics.
Speaking of clay... we've got an important look at this timeless raw material along with some dos and don'ts.
Meanwhile, if you are looking for a great way to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, try this lesson. Need Valentine's Day, art lessons? Look no further because we've got all the special days covered in our Seasonal Pages.
And don't miss our Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture Lesson Plans for all ages.
