Submitted by: Frances Redford, a teacher at Blackstone Primary in Blackstone, VA.
Skills/Objective:
To help the students learn to cooperate.
To help them learn to take turns.
To help them learn to estimate (guess how many they found)
What You Need:
found small rocks
dish detergent and water in a dishpan (2 desired)
gold spray paint
lunch bags or something to hold the gold they find
What You Do:
After discussing how leprechauns are always looking for gold, have the children look for rocks outside on the playground.
Bring them into the room and let them take turns washing the rocks in the soapy water.
Take the rocks home and spray paint them gold.Hide them the next day at school.
The children will wear their leprechaun hats and go out to find the gold. (You may want to give a prize for this or not.) I let the children take the "gold" home.
