ALTERNATIVE FINGER PAINTING

A lesson in texture and design from Jane Sanders, a student at Wheelock College, Boston Mass.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • flour
  • plastic gloves (avoid latex gloves to prevent allergic reactions).
  • tempera paint
  • heavy paper or oaktag

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Fill gloves with flour, until full. Then knot the opening (sealing the contents tight).

  2. Have Children feel the glove and discuss the texture.

  3. Have students dip each "hand" into the paint. The students will use the "hand" as a brush and print on the paper.

  4. For variations, fill gloves with different items (beans, rice) for different textures!
