WINTER RESISTS

Grade : K-6
Age: 4-12

Crayon resist is a technique that usually combines crayons and dark paint or ink. Snow scenes can be created using white tempera instead of black.

What You Need:

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Crayons
  • White tempera paint (watered down)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Water
  • Water containers
  • A covered work area

What You Do:

  1. Draw a winter scene on the paper.

  2. Colour the scene in using crayons.

  3. Make sure the crayon is applied heavily so it will repel the paint.

  4. Leave a few areas free of crayon so that the paint has something the "grab onto".

  5. Apply a thin coat of white tempera paint over the crayon.

  6. The result will look like a snowy day.
