EASTER BASKETS
Grade: K-2
Age: 4-6
Submitted by: Jamie, a teaching assistant from Syracuse, NY
Objectives:
Kids can make their own basket for easter.
What You Need:
- paperclips
- string
- balloons
- flour
- water
- newspaper
- construction paper
- tempera paint
- scissors
- stapler
What You Do:
- Blow up the balloons. (One balloon will make two baskets.)
- Tie the string to the balloon and attach the paperclip. This is to dry it.
- Cut the newspaper and the construction paper into strips.
- Mix the flour and water until you get the desired consistency, in a bowl to make paper mache paste.
- Have students dip the newspaper into the paper mache paste until completely soaked. Rub excess paste off with your hands.
- Next, spread the soaked newspaper around the balloon.
- Keep repeating this process until the balloon is completely covered.
- Hang the balloons to dry. If possible hang in a window for about 24 hours.
- Take them down and pop the balloons. Pull on the string and pull the balloon out.
- Starting from the hole left by the balloon, cut in half.
- Staple a strip of the construction paper for the handle.
- Flip the basket on it's top and paint with bright colors.
- Let it dry.
- Add some Easter Grass and candy.
