Donna Erickson's Fabulous Fun Stuff For Families
by Donna Erickson
There are many different activity books for kids, but this one has a twist I
haven't seen before. Donna shows you how each activity in this book will help
your child grow and develop, while allowing you and your children to connect and
enjoy your time together.
Donna Erickson is the host of the award winning TV series, Donna's Day; author
of Prime Time Together... with Kids and More Prime Time Activities with Kids;
and a contributing editor to Parents Magazine. She also writes a syndicated
column that appears in newspapers nationwide.
Donna, together with the Search Institute, has compiled this book of family
activities in a way that shows parents and caregivers exactly how each activity
helps the child's developmental growth. Each activity, laid out on highly
colorful and friendly pages, refers back to one or more of the 40 developmental
assets from the Search Institute.
For example, did you know that making homemade face paint aids in planning and
decision making as a child grows? The developmental assets at the end of the
book tells us that this activity helps "children begin to learn how to plan
ahead and make choices at appropriate developmental levels". Think about it for
moment. When making different colored face paints, your child must plan ahead in
order to choose which colors they would like to create!
While many of the activities outlined in this colorful book are not new to me,
the connection between each activity and its developmental characteristic is!
This book proves that having inexpensive and creative fun with your children
will help them to grow into well rounded adults.
Activities include seasonal ideas, holidays, and year round fun and games. Many
of the ideas listed will cost little or nothing by using ordinary household
items or treasures from your backyard. You will find simple craft projects, easy
kid's recipes, and plenty of creative games to keep your children busy all year
long. A wonderful find for parents of children aged 2 through 12.
